Rode into work today, ahhhh felt good on the bike today, no snow, no frozen bike, my mp3 player worked the entire way in. (I'm counting that as my chrismas miracle)

It was a little chilly, I did not wear a belaclava or hat, and once I got to work I wish I would have. Also need to make a glove repair, with any luck I can beg, borrow or steal a heavy knedle and thread at Dave and Laines house tonight.

Curious on how dave will make out today, he is riding the tank today for the first time this year, I mght actualy be able to keep up with him now. hahahahah

Nanotech Material Never Gets Wet, Even When Wet...

Sright from the web;

Through the magic of nanotechnology (we use "magic" only ever so figuratively), chemists from the University of Zurich have developed a new fabric that never gets wet, even after being completely submerged in water for two months.
The fabric is constructed of polyester fibers that are covered in a layer of 40-nanometer-wide silicone nanofilaments. These nanofilaments are spiky and cause water to sit in a sphere above the fabric, a permanent pocket of air protected safely below.
Not only could the fabric create a self-cleaning clothing; it reduces drag in water by 20%. In other words, Michael Phelps could go without washing his bathing suit ever again—a prospect that's probably in mixed demand depending on the specific sexual orientation of the fan.

Weekend...

Weekend...

Weekend was very lazy, we really did not do to much. Only had two set backs.

Saturday AM before we went to the Base for groceries with my mom, I had a ocular migraine hit me. And then again Last night I had another one. Two in 48 hours,,,, gerrrrr. I have a call into my Doc to see what I should be doing, and also to set up a appointment, the wife feels very strongly about me getting a checkup.

Cleaned up the house a bit, start writing out the thank you cards from the wedding, WOW what a pain in the back side that is. Now I know why people elope.

Other then when ever I sense I want to pass out, things are back to normal.

Bread...

I made challa bread this weekend, it came out really nice, I used a technique I learned/borrowed/stole from the restaurant in Long wood gardens where you bake the bread in a 2" terracotta flower pot. When its all said and done you get this really nice presentation, and a wonderful texture on the bread from being in direct contact with a stone.

I did changed up the traditional recipe a bit, Challa calls for a egg yok+sugar+water egg wash before it goes into the oven. I changed this out for just a traditional egg wash, were not really sweet bread lovers with the exception to sticky buns, and donuts. HUmmmmmm donut.

The two images were from the web, mine looks much better.

Sweet site, info is good, the layout could use a little love, but its all about the information.

How bad is your driving, Really?

Lemur Autovision is a key fob that records a drivers habits. With the price of gas being what it was, and just a needed over all understanding of some of the ways we can as a culture break our love affair with the automobile. This little fab will allow you to see how you really drive. I'm thinking of a second version that you can't reset so parents know how their children drive. $80

AdminPatch...

So hears the deal, You don't feel pain from a cut until the skin is cut to a certain depth. This depth is know to medical science, is the level where our skin has all its pain receptors.

So, we take a patch, fill it with millions of tiny micronedles that can puncture you skin, and then lace those microneedles with drugs. This will allow the delivering of water-soluble drugs locally or systemically thought the micrpores it makes in the skin, and allows for medication to be delivered continuously while its stuck to you.

Put all of this with, these cuts are so small they collapse quickly when the patch is removed, its simple to use, easy and cheep to manufacture. Not sure of the medical uses for delivering but if it can in some way be used for insulin I know allot of diabetics that will be very excited for this one.

Pet of the day...

One of the best pet costumes I have seen.

Why Helmets don't suck...
A Broken Shami reader send this one in.. I know I'm surprised to, we have readers.
They went down on a club ride, 10mph, f. tire went out on a Rodie, turned side ways and they did a road surface density check with their head.
This is your brain, this is your brain on asphalt with out a helmet, any questions?

Three Words, BURRRRRRR- all of them...

Friday ride report.

WOW was that cold. I left my house at aprox 7:00am, thinking I'll be a little late getting to work, but it might be a little less slippery if the sun gets on the trail a bit.

Ok, so I started me day of wrong and just made it a habit most of the day.

The ride in was ok, I had a little bit of a trouble with some of the climbs, I still have the semi slick tire on the back so it was all over the pace if i stood up. Other then that everything went ok.

Once I got off bike trails, and onto streets it was just wet, the only sporty places were where the snow was being insulated from the road by leaves.

After racking the bike, I changed out the back tire for me Kenda X-trail (Love that thing).

The ride home was much better, with the exception of my rear derailleur froze up tight, I had three gears. Fastest speed I could make was 6mph... 6 I tell you 6. what usually takes me 30-40 min took me over 1 hour and 30 min. at this point I was freezing.

Headed over to the bike shop and got a can of alcohol degreaser and went to town on the derailleur, they also found a broken cable housing, and something "technical" in the back axle was loose.

Got a new patch kit, CO2, and spray for 24 bucks, I love my LBS.

On to the geek stuff.

Vista has failed me...
I gave vista a year, can't do it any longer. On Friday I slip streamed SATA drivers into a XP pro install and, ahhhhhhh, back to a real OS. Much happier now.

Nuclear Cooling Tower...
Its a vase, its a router is a Nuclear Colling Tower.

I have a rule, well two rules actually.

1) Don't drink anything blue. :)
2) Never, ever, mix water and gadgets, but this is kid-of geek sexy.

RPGs=Bad, Quick kill defense system=Badder...

The military has come up with a way to use a grenade to defend against a grenade. How would have thunk it?

Fiber optic Wall Paper...

My inner dork, you know the one, the guy that I try to not let out is flipping out over this one.

Wall paper laced with fiber-optic lines. You can program it to display just about anything, or lots of random somethings. No idea how expensive it will be.

Wave LED Coffee Table...

Uses 32 sensors to detect movement and follow it with trails of color from 480 LEDs under the surface. More your wine glass over it and the lite will follow it. Nifty, $1800-$2000. This would flip my cat out!

HypsSurface...

Fabric and Plastic walls drive my pistons to create a moving surface. Recommendation, No drugs prior to standing next to this thing.

Pet of the Day...
We are now excepting submissions for the pet of the day image, if you have a goofy pet, and can get their goofiness on film, send it over to Broken Shami and we may post your image on the World Wide Web!!! And if we use your image, you'll get,, well nothing at all.

Why Helmets Don't Suck...

Three Words, OUCH! All of them.

What a wonderfull Friday...

On the post again, I just cant wait to get on the post again I'm back online hanging out with my online friends, I just can't wait to get on the post again.

So I have been very, very lucky as for the last two days, the wife has been driving her old man to and from work... Ahhh,, "Some times to be a man, you get to take off the stretchy pants"

So since there is no bike news on the books, "Let talk about geek baby, lets talk about you and me"

Vista in 4 seconds...

So some rocket scie.... wait not really.

Someone, somewhere (That Guy --->)
was very, very happy with them selvs that they got windows Vista to start in 4 seconds. Ok, all they really did when you take the higher math out of it was retart the comptuer, then susspend the new session till it was needed...... ho-hu.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and according to some its often, but aren't their some more pressing problems with Windows Vista that need fixed other then the speed of boot?

Its Hudge...

No really its it, I can't say it any better then they did so here you go.

"Huge astronomy news! For the first time EVER, galaxy researchers have taken pictures of planets orbiting a sun-star, much like our own. The first, taken by the much beloved Hubble Telescope, shows a planet orbiting the bright southern star Fomalhaut, located 25 light-years away in the constellation Piscis Australis. The second picture, snapped by upstaging Hawaiian observatories Gemini and Keck, shows two young planets orbiting a completely different star located 130 light-years from us! Take that Hubble! But I warn you—like the ultrasounds your friends show you of their three-month old fetus—these pictures wow mostly because of what they are, not because of what they look like."

Read all About it -> Here

What the fork???

I'm with gizmodo on this one, this might be fake, but it looks real, and I would really like to know what its for, why and how.

Save a tree, make it easier on the Air lines so they can bill you more...

American Airlines is now allowing customers to eprint their bording pass on a PDA. At O'Hare airport you can walk up, show your inner geek and get on. I wounder if they will charge for this to?

This is taking pre-wash a little to far.

Why helmets don't Suck...

No image today, just a link and A hope that you all go out and read this one,

Want to know where the most dangerous places to ride are, well here is the data behind where bikers get hit and why.

Getting back to Old Broken Shami

Wow, Tuesday AM SUCKED!!!!!

ShockTop is the devil.

Dave, thank you by the way, that was one of the better hang overs I have had in quite a long time.

Ok so time to get the Shami back to her old style and format.

The ride in today...

It was fun, I took a street that I tend not to ride due to traffic, but today I was in the mood to be a bit of a road warrior. (Wow, when the wife reads this I'm in a bucket of trubble)

So I hopped off the green belt at Harrisburg Hospitalbe and then ran 2nd for a while, well let me tell you, 2nd street at 7:30am is sporty. 3 lanes of traffic red lights, and most of the time I was faster then the cars..... Hahahahahahahah. Kiss my fat a@@.

Red Line-New Route
Green Line-Old Route

It was nice for a change of pace.

5) Our wedding was a blast, thank you to all those that made it possible.

Today was one of thouse days, I got to Daves house really, really late. I blame snuggling with the new wife for to long, but hey can you blame a guy?

So after getting the bike set up, I decided to take the short way in to work, a quick ride up Sycamore street and I'm there. This route cuts my ride in about 1/2.

Well last night there was some rain and its been a long time since I rode with wet roads. Going down the hill I pushed and got the bike up to about 32 mph. Just as I crosed the street, the car in front of me puts on their left turn signal and comes to a dead stop. WOW do thouse new disk breaks ever lock up a tire. The back tire started to fish tail, both feet came out of the peddels, and I was sitting on the top tube. At this point I was excepting I was going to crash. Somehow, I managed to get my feet out into the ski position, feather back the break and keep the bike upright. At the same time I got over onto the side walk and brought things to a complete stop. When I looked back there was a fish tail drag mark throght the entire intersection. Must have been quite a show for all thouse watching.

Fisxed my chain, it fell off during all the excitement, and back in the saddle again. Thats when I looked down at my HRM and relised that is the highest its ever been. Wow, I did not know my heart went up that high.
